i'm getting extremely aggravated at this weird "accountability" thing that seems to be popping up more and more in culture. at least from my observations, there's this mindset of accountability, but only for Certain People. the idea seems to be that no matter how bad things get for one guy, no matter how messed up some guy's life is, it is his *responsibility* to take control and simply *choose* the correct reactions. i'm not saying that your own problems are an acceptable reason to go out and hurt others. i'm saying that when a situation just Sucks, telling the people who are going through it that they need to be accountable and take responsibility (for things that they literally have no control over) is more akin to victim blaming than helping. like, there's a difference between telling someone "your own problems are real, but no excuse to hurt others" and telling them "yes you got stabbed, but you still have to apologize for the blood on the floor"
