I may be academically smart, but I might be fundamentally naive too. My dad and sister got into a very rare argument over politics, and my dad got extremely upset and started my sister 'indoctrinated', in direct response to her telling him that George Washington explicitly cautioned against foreign interference. Then he started saying she was being taught by 'stupid people', and went on a tangent about 'communists', 'socialists', and transgender kids using bathrooms (100% unprovoked on the topic). He called her stupid and a 'little girl' at 16 too. Even after she brought up that Trump was a pdf and did unthinkable things, my dad immediately said he "doesn't care" and called her indoctrinated and stupid again. I was honestly appalled by all of it, but not that surprised considering watching the news is his main hobby. He doesn't have friends at all and is kind of mean. But it makes me think no matter how smart I try to be, maybe I'm just fundamentally naive about the world after all.
