I suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) during adolescence. While obsessions during adolescence were aimed at harm prevention, the obsession content has evolved drastically. Namely, preoccupation with preventing poisoning and mitigating harm to possessions have been themes of recent obsessions. I'm a chemist; I'm constantly exposed to environments in which cytotoxins and carcinogens are present. Recently, I've started doing research in the presence of biohazards. The fear of exposure and irrational fear of “spreading” exposure has caused a large amount of distress. I can only akin the distress to a “gnawing yell”, almost certainly CSTC circuits blasting nonstop in dysregulation. Overall, life is hell and it only gets worse for those with anxiety disorders.
