Addressing my medical trauma, part 2: Also when I was 19 I got into a relationship with a man working in the healthcare field. We've been together since, he's climbed the ladder and he's dealt with all sorts. He couldn't understand why I used the underwear rule when it came to medical examinations and procedures, because to him it's just normal and necessary. But to 3 year old me it was humiliating. I was constipated, my dad was making fun of me about it constantly and it led be to believe it was something most people never experience, especially having to go to a doctor about it Towards the start of my relationship, my boyfriend told me his experience of constipation when he was around the same age, had to go to the doctor etc. The only difference was his perspective. Even at the time he said he wasn't bothered. Then I told him about my experience, and it was the first time I'd ever told anyone. It wasn't easy, but knowing I wasn't alone was such a relief.
