my closest childhood friend was like a sibling to me, but they suddenly cut me and all of our family and friends off almost a decade ago. Now they have reached out to me and want to reconnect and i'm feeling a lot of conflicting emotions. On the one hand, I truly do love this person unconditionally, in the same way as i do my biological siblings. That sort of bond doesn't just vanish. But I also did a lot of work to process the grief of losing that relationship, and watching a person I knew so well become a stranger. It took time but I've moved on. I miss that person a lot, and think about them often. But I also understood that they had their own reasons for wanting to leave our hometown and never look back. I'm feeling a mix of happiness, anxiety, grief, and I don't even know what if they want to talk now. WHY now? After nothing for so long. I don't want to reopen a wound that I worked so hard to heal, but I also want to help them if they are in need. I'm scared to lose them again.
