Someone in a server said "gay island" and I, a literature fan, immediately thought of the famous Greek island "Lesbos" I was unaware of the island having the same name as a slur for lesbians. Someone mentioned this and I obviously immediately apologised and specified my meaning, I then edited the original message with the hopes noone would misunderstand. However this turned into a whole debate about how I was lesphobic and I needed "educating" someone messaged me directly calling me out where I then obviously apologised again and specified my intentions. They said something along the lines of "I'm glad you've learned" then they immediately went back to the server and claimed that I definitely had derogatory intentions, straight up lying even after my extensive apologies in DMs. I did not apologise again in the group chat for a couple of reasons, 1- I did nothing wrong originally and had no ill will 2- I'd already apologised 3- I didn't want to worsen the argument.
