I’ve been living with my in laws for a few months. I’m so grateful they’ve allowed us to stay in their camper for free. That said, they are driving me up a wall. I am autistic. Functional but autistic. And I feel like my needs go unmet. I am constantly making space for everyone else and their quirks while I am met with the attitude of “you’re a grown up, grow up”. For example, my kids will make repeated tapping noises and I’ll ask them to stop (politely). They do. But my in laws rub it in my face that I’m not allowing them to “develop correctly”. Apparently tapping is a normal part of developing these days? They also communicate in really frustrating ways. Like for example the trunk of our car is opening automatically. It’s strange, yes. The car is not functioning properly. But today my father in law came up to me and said that the car was trash and doesn’t work because the trunk is opening… like how do we go from the car having an issue to the car being trash?
