It feels weird being mad at my mom. Growing up, I've been told that I should never hold grudges against my family. That blood is thicker than water, and that I should always be grateful for whatever we have. So when my only present parent fails me, it feels like failing myself as a daughter. She doesn't have much, and neither do I. Why should I have the right to feel frustrated? I never asked for much. I only ask for things that I truly need. I don't ever complain, because what good would it do other than stress my mom out further? I don't understand. All I want to do is graduate high school, move out for college, and have a life of my own. But it's difficult to have expectations when there's a debt of gratitude involved, and my future—albeit promising academically—seems dim.
