I don’t like my dad. I’m so utterly disappointed in how he treats me and how he treated my partner, and I just can’t get past it. It was cruel, I addressed it, he seemingly apologized, said he’d do better - then was even crueler the next time. Rinse and repeat. It’s a pattern. It took me too long to realize that. But now I’m getting married, and I honestly don’t want him there. I always wanted him to walk me down the aisle, now I want security at the door just in case he decides to make a dramatic appearance. It’s such a flipped switch, but I’m actually disgusted by his behavior, and in the time we’ve spent apart, I’ve come to terms with just how much of his past behavior I’ve been silently resenting all these years. It sucks, and I hate being estranged, but my life is admittedly so much more peaceful, I’m so much happier, and I don’t have my dad around to apologize for anymore. I miss him… but I’m realizing I just miss who he used to be, or maybe who I used to think he was.
