It’s been 9 months since my dad died and it still feels like yesterday. Each morning I hear his alarm go off in the other room only because I haven’t had the heart to unplug it. When I’m at school and I need to stay after for a club meeting or to make up a test sometimes I forget that I don’t need to call him to let him know. I’m “grown” now, I can drive back home on my own and I don’t need to ask him to pick me up. Or if I’m at the store I don’t need to bring extra food home for him. On the day of the funeral I felt terrible. Most people cried but I couldn’t shed a single tear. I actually laughed at one point, not because it was funny or anything but because I was remembering all that we had and the last conversation that we shared together. I wish he could still be with me now because I still don’t know how to do taxes or how to write a check and he promised to teach me all of these things when I was older. I’m almost 18 now and I wish my dad was here to teach me how to be an adult.
