I feel like people are just pushing emotional "maturity" on fellow adults so that they can control us. They want us to accept any criticism they give us so they can say what they like to us without consequences. They want us to regulate our emotions because those are the consequences of saying what they like and they don't want consequences. They want to absolutely rip into us under the guise of accountability, and they want us to nod and apologise. No, adults cannot regulate their emotions any more than children can. In fact probably less. No child has ever got furious with me and yelled at me because I picked a feather up off the ground. So why are adults now expected to regulate something too powerful to be regulated? They were always allowed to get absolutely furious at us when we were children, and now we're expected to control our emotions when no one even showed us that was possible (clearly it's not)
