guysh I just realized like in the Latino community they really are focused on race a lot. Deadass I love my dad but he’s lighter than me, he has an olive skintone and has really long black wavy hair (I forgot the other name for it) but he goes by indio. Basically, my dads like obsessed with me getting my hair straightened cus my moms black so I’m mixed, I have curly hair. Idk it just feels kinda erasing of my blackness and culture since he keeps insisting on it. I used to get a slik press every 2 weeks mind u…holy ish. but yeah I was given the nickname india by my family because of my dads indigenous (taino) features but other ppl in my family were called morenito/negrito etc. idk I just find it weird now that I’m finding out a lot of other people’s family nicknames are based on race, I like being called other nicknames like nena or mamita but idek about india anymore
