My mom, while she is supportive and respectful of the LGBTQ, does not understand transgender and nonbinary identities. I might break up with my trans and nonbinary partner soon, and so I reiterated to my mom that it had nothing to do with my partner’s gender identity, just their personality. She was shocked I thought she wouldn’t be supportive, and I reminded her she’s flat out admitted she doesn’t understand it in the past, such as just 3 months ago saying she didn’t understand how someone could still be feminist and not be a woman despite being biologically female. She said if she’s ever seemed unsupportive, to just let her know for clarification, so I then told her that 7 years ago when I was in highschool, I attempted to come out as nonbinary but she didn’t understand and said that wasn’t me. I brought it up because I was mentioning that she’s shown to not understand trans identities in the past AND present. I later apologized and told her I had also forgotten that event for years
