I hate that my last name is constantly laughed at just because it sounds "weird" to other people, when it's literally textbook xenophobia. People here are so ignorant and uneducated it's unbelievable. My full name translates to 'peaceful night' and it's a beautiful meaning. I always have a constant need to reconnect with my culture so I don't feel lonely and insecure in my heritage after feeling judged for it. I wish lesser understood cultures were represented more in the United States. I mean who hears an unfamiliar sounding name and thinks, "hey I've never heard of this one before I should probably laugh at it" and think it's okay?? Where's the curiosity and respect??
