It's a strange feeling, freeing yet a little awkward. Now that I no longer identify with codependency, I have standards. For the first time in my life, I feel like I have solid preferences. I allow myself to say, "they're not my type," and walk away when they don't reciprocate. If it's not mutually beneficial, I'm not staying. No more guilt for having wants and needs. No chasing, no begging.
