im 20 years old. At 19, I escaped my abusive mother with nothing but the clothes on my back. I was homeless for a week until CPS took me in. When I was 15, my mother tried to kill me, and I was placed in the system. At 17, custody was given back to her. I didn’t want to remain in the system, so I continued working and going to college. the goverment said theyll pay me housing for a year while continuing my education and job, as long as I applied for public housing. I did exactly that. Now, after 11 months, I’m being told I’m not elegible for public housing because im consider a minor in Puerto Rico because I’m under 21 and must leave this house next month quit my job and college, or pay $600 for emancipation. I can’t afford $600. I can barely afford food. most days, I eat ingredients instead of full meals because I have to make my food last until payday. I’m a nurse i do 10.50 hourly and I’m in college, yet I still can’t afford basic necessities and i cant stand it anymore.
