I need to rant. I’m the oldest daughter, forced to be perfect while my troublesome 6-year-old brother gets all the attention and spends money daily. High school starts soon; sports are everything here. I used to do competitive artistic swimming but quit after team drama. Lately, I wanted to join the high school swim team with an old teammate. My dad supported it until seeing the schedule; he refused to commit, calling it a waste of time, though my brother’s schedule is way more chaotic. My mom ignores and forgets me, refusing mother-daughter bonding while doing it all with him. They scold me for buying things and call sports a distraction, even though I'm an athlete. I must act like the perfect kid but I feel like I'll never be enough. They want me in rec sports, not competitive, which isn't what I want. They don't understand my effort, say I don't try, and loudly find fault instead of praising me. I've never heard "I'm proud of you" ONCE. I feel like I'm not enough and never will be.
