My little brother and I are shackled to a neglectful family, a huis-clos. We are both special needs, both struggling from mental health. But, while I try to find my footing and continue to mask out of survival, my brother has trouble taking action due to not being taught how to live properly, and heavily relies on escapism. I can tell when I speak to him his heart and intentions are in the right place, but he is slowly derailing into a life of ignorance and apathy, a spectator of his own body. As a sibling, I can only teach him so much; I have my own issues. The smoke, maggots, and dirt have severed our ability to think. We've never sought for help, likely conditioned to keep weakness to ourselves, but the internet has granted me insight. I lack the courage to take the first step, and without my parents' financial aid, everything feels hopeless and predetermined. I know I must save him from this house, but the weight on my shoulders is becoming heavier, and I don't know what to do.
